My Travel Story

Hello, my name is Laureen, and I am fascinated with studying science disciplines and would love to increase my knowledge and do research of my own. It is my utter passion. When I was a child, I was always outside investigating the nature surrounding my house and the nearby park, coupled with reading science fiction novels, sparking an undying interest in these studies, most notably biology. I took just about every potential biology and chemistry - as well as an engineering physics - course that the community college in my area offered (I was granted a two-year scholarship and got very eager to fill my knowledge with courses beyond just the prerequisites) in the two-and-a-half-years that I attended. My college had previously, and understandably, restricted in-person lab attendance due to coronavirus, which had greatly impacted the ability to experience the firsthand review chemically/biologically of what is described in a textbook or by a professor. At the university I will attend, I plan on majoring in biochemical engineering and perhaps astrobiology, as well as minor in genetics and anthropology. As I am young and in my gap year, I would love to gain and build experience in field research to kickstart me later and provide direct insight on this education beyond strictly a lecture-based classroom.

I was granted the opportunity to study abroad in an institutionalized internship this summer in Costa Rica over tropical ecology and conservation. Unfortunately, the fellowship is one that I must pay a very handsome expense only to attend.
Under my circumstances, I currently cannot even afford to attend. I do beg for any generosity of anyone willing to help fund me. The expense I am asking for is still less than the expense that is asked of the internship - I must also cover the international travel fair and supplies used on the field - but any donations would still help reduce the overall cost.
