My Travel Story

by: Jude Schmiesing Start Date: Jun 25, 2025 - End Date: Nov 21, 2025
This January, me and a close friend, Rebekah DeWolf, are leading a team of nursing and pre-health students on a medical mission to Ghana, Africa. We will be out of country for 9 days, working alongside local healthcare providers and serving communities that don’t have regular access to medical care.

It’s something we have been preparing for over the past few months—figuring out logistics, planning with my co-lead, and trying to balance it all with work and the business of life. It’s exciting and a little overwhelming, but mostly, I just feel grateful for the chance to go.

This trip is about showing up, doing what we can with what we know, and learning from the people we meet. We’ll be offering basic care—vitals, wound cleaning, patient education—and spending time in clinics and villages. It’s small work for a short time but we hope to make a difference in those that we encounter.

I’ve never led something like this before, and I know it’ll stretch me. But I believe in the mission, I believe in the team I’m going with, and I believe that even just being there and listening, serving, showing respect to eveyone I meet can make a difference.

There are a lot of costs that go into making this trip possible: flights to and from Ghana, the yellow fever vaccination (which is required for entry), program fees, a travel visa, housing for the week, and food. It adds up quickly, but each part is essential to being fully prepared and present for the mission.

If you’re able to give anything to help cover these costs, I’d be truly grateful. If you are unable, please pray for the team as we prepare for this mission. Thanks again for all your spirtual and financial support!
