I’m 5 years old volunteering in Costa Rica!
My Travel Story
I'm going to start volunteering at the age of 5!
Costa Rica here I come!
I can count to 10 in Spanish and I know the colors too! I will stay with a host family to learn more Spanish so I can come back and speak Spanish with my Nana!
During our first week in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, we will be volunteering at a wildlife rescue center called Proyecto Asis. I will help feed the animals who are in rehabilitation. I will need to think of games and create puzzles and mazes to keep them active during play time and feeding time!
During the second to fourth week in La Fortuna, I will be volunteering at a local orphanage and can play with kids my age all day!! My job is to teach them English! I can teach them all about the 5 senses, the days of the week, how's the weather, feelings, and how to count to 100! I can also teach them how to speak Cantonese because that's what I use to speak to my Gung Gung and Paw Paw at their house. I have a dog Cooper and can teach them how to train a puppy too.
I heard that the children in the orphanage range from infants to nine years old. And where we are staying all together with no mommies and daddies, it's kind of sad and they do not have many things to play with. I will be bringing them all my toys, books, Duplos, LEGOS, puzzles, balls, clothes and shoes! But I only have 2 suitcases.
They don't really have Wifi everywhere so we won't be able to use the tablet to watch Storybots or Netflix. It's ok because I will have so much work to do Mon-Fri at the orphanage. Then we will do some traveling to see a real life volcano, a sea turtle hatchery, exotic animals in the rainforest (two-toes sloths, scarlet macaws, spider monkeys, anteaters, Oh my!) and maybe even try out surfing in the town of Jaco?!?! There will also be a lot of yummy local food to try!
I will be staying there for 6.5 weeks with mommy from June 26th - Aug 11th. Daddy can only stay for two and a half weeks because he needs to go back to work in NYC.
I'm super excited to be able to work and play with children my age again in the sunny weather! It will be a big change from staying home everyday in an apartment in Brooklyn. Don't worry, I will still be wearing my masks there all the time because that's the rule and I want everyone to stay safe! I will need a nose test before coming back to the US and that's going to hurt a lot! I'll try my best to be super brave.
Thank you for sponsoring me on my first time ever volunteer abroad adventure! I will make sure to share my pictures with you when I come back! Click on the Funding button below to see what rewards you can get when you donate!
Love you!
