My Travel Story

Steve Jobs once said “Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while.” The first time I read this, I fully identified and felt a sense of relief that I wasn’t alone. You see, the creative process is something that is crucial in the education of all students. I take my students on a journey much further than “how to do something”. I show them how to think like an artist. How to see the world in shapes and colors, how to push boundaries and question the “rules”.  I show them that problems have hundreds of different answers, not just one. Artists explore, investigate, question, experiment, push & probe. It's a process of thinking creatively and challenging your mind to adapt to another's interpretation of the world. This is the kind of experience I want to provide for kids, but in a completely different culture. Something that is going to activate a new perspective for both them, myself, and my students here in Maryland.

I will be going to Kumasi, Ghana to facilitate a program that includes the creative arts in schools. I will be working with educators there to provide students with a unique experience. This trip will be funded by myself and I am primarily seeking to alleviate the costs of airfare. However, for any $10 donation I will send you a photograph I take on the trip! Email your name and address to laurenafritts@gmail.com Thank you so much for considering! (Art materials are covered, they are being collected by my NAHS group)
