Rebuilding Inca village as practice for my community
My Travel Story
My next project is to volunteer in the community of Pachacutec outside of Lima, Peru (https://www.volunteerhq.org/destinations/peru/construction-and-renovation-in-lima)
According to the host organization, IVHQ, "Families in disadvantaged communities around Lima often live in makeshift homes that they can’t afford to improve, and community buildings that house valuable services are also often in need of basic maintenance and repairs. Volunteers can play a big part in bringing these buildings up to a good standard for the people that use and live in them. There are also many community buildings, schools and childcare centers which often lack sufficient roofing, flooring, electricity and/or plumbing. The buildings that volunteers work on also need help with maintenance such as painting, gardening, window repair and basic repair work."
This work contributes to United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
My cost of participating in this program is about $2400, of which $675 are registration and program fees. IVHQ's program fees support the local community by creating more job opportunities and long-term employment, feeding directly into the local economy, and helping keep volunteer projects running sustainably.
If you can help me cover IVHQ costs, it would be greatly appreciated.
Forever grateful, Maryana
