My Travel Story

by: Emma Rault Start Date: Jan 29, 2023 - End Date: May 28, 2023
This year I am celebrating my fiftieth, the BIG 5 0…  I feel blessed to have so many friends all around the world some so far away that I won’t be able to celebrate my half century with you all and considering that I barely remember my 30th and 40th celebration parties ( mainly tequilla being to blame) this year I have decided to  do it the right way and to do something that I will never forget, a trip of a lifetime, I am going to Zimbabwe to volunteer for 2 weeks on a reserve with the big 5s (Elephant, Cape buffalo, Leopard, Lion and Rhinos).

So for my birthday present, instead of asking more stuff that I already too much of and that I cant find the willpower to throw away, I am asking for donation towards  my travel. 50% of your donation will go toward the cost of my contribution and the other 50% I will donate to the Nakavango reserve.

Nakavango is the only privately-owned reserve within the immediate vicinity of the Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, ideally placing volunteers for a wild and wonderful experience! The reserve protects 4 000ha of the area’s rich natural heritage and is a sanctuary for Africa’s iconic game – including the critically endangered black rhino, with it being a designated Intensive Protection Zone for the species.

I have in my life travelled to many places around the world and I have learned so much from new culture. By voluteering  I will be immersed in a new culture, contributing to my own education and personal growth. We will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in conservation management and assist with on-going conservation research, which are vital for the successful operation of the reserve, its surrounding areas, and their ecosystems. Not only we will be working closely with these magnificient animalswe will team up with students from Masuwe Primary School to assist the school and its Woodlands community.‘Voluntourism’ combines travel with leaving a “heartprint” on local spaces and communities. The Nakavango Conservation programme gives visitors the opportunity engage in ‘behind the scenes’ conservation and game reserve management activities, wildlife research, and community development initiatives. In addition to this, you will be perfectly placed to experience Victoria Falls town, the Falls themselves, as well as the mighty Zambezi River.
