My Travel Story

by: Karuna Kishori Dasi Start Date: Apr 6, 2017 - End Date: Jul 4, 2017
Dear charitable spirit souls,

Thank you for visiting my funding campaign page.  Amongst other things, I am a traveling brahmacarini (a nun in the ancient Indian tradition of Gaudiya Vaisnavasm).  I am currently in Cape Town, South Africa. My daily work is to serve at the temple here and to study the sacred Vedic sciptures of India. Being thus engaged, I do not work for an income, and therefore rely on the generous donations of charitable individuals in order to occasionally travel for missionary and pilgrimage purposes.

During July and August every year, my guru maharaj, HH Indradyumna Swami, co-ordinates a massive festival tour on the baltic coast of Poland (http://www.travelingmonk.com/festivals/). During these two months, disciples and devotees from all over the world come together in a small, unassuming town in the beautiful Polish countryside. Living together in a school closed for the summer holidays, we work around the clock to make sure that for these two months, on the Baltic coast of Poland, there is a spectacular festival (almost) every day! And then, there's the epic Woodstock music festival... 4-5 days of intense service, little sleep and the most ecstatic of ecstatic kirtans!

I started this campaign to raise funds for my travel and visa expenses so that I can get to Europe by late June.  Since time is limited, I am appealing for donations.  My plan is to spend almost a full 2 months in Poland, working on the tour.  I will then visit some temples in Germany and Hungary before returning to South Africa to help with more festivals.  Please help me in this endeavour to serve my Guru maharaj.

Yours in service,
Karuna Kishori dasi
(aka Laryn)

Seeing the pitiable condition of Bhakti devi at the beginning of the age of Kali, Narada said to her, "Oh beautiful-faced lady! There is no age equal to Kali. In this age I will personally preach your glories in each and every home and establish you within the hearts of each and every individual. Hear my vow! Giving priority to devotional festivals over all other forms of religiosity, if I do not spread you everywhere on earth, then I shall no longer be known as the servant of Hari. The living entities that will be born in this age of Kali will be devotees who attain the abode of Lord Hari without any hinderances, even if they are sinners." - Uttara-khanda (194.14-16) of the Padma Purana

Awkwardly, it seems that no one has visited my funding page... What to do? I could resort to telling the whole sad story of my desperation but that's not really my style.

Thank you to my dear friends Nilacala devi dasi, Kamala Sita dasi and Vishaka Priya devi dasi for their donations. More importantly, thank you for giving me so much of your love and support over the past year and particularly over the past few months.

Time is running out. I'm unsure if I will make it to Poland in time for the start of the tour... but I haven't given up yet. I'm not a great preacher or book distributor, I'm shy and I'm a bit of a loner. I also can't lead kirtan or play any instruments nicely. The only thing I can really offer is to do some menial service in support of those who are preachers and kirtaneers. The best place for me to serve is in Poland, on this tour. That is the desire of my Gurudev and therefore it is also my desire. Please help if you can.
