Who is John Lane-Watson?

I am a senior music major at the University of Missouri. The appreciation I hold for the beauty and power in all forms of art stems from many music related experiences, and this passion cultivates my aspirations towards studying deep artistic features in music, theatre, art, many of other areas on a global scale. I desire to expand upon my expectation and perception of what the aesthetics of art truly encompass in life and utilize it in a positive manner. Studying abroad at Seoul National University, the undisputed top university in the entire country of South Korea, will widen my view on life and supply me with the tools to promote a more culturally interconnected community in the arts.

Why Seoul South Korea?

My life has always been surrounded by a positive network of support from my family and teachers. Both my mother and father have done a phenomenal job raising their children, and they have created the path that has led me to where I am today. By studying abroad on the other side of the world, the support is still there, but it is not as present and will force me to become more independent. My purpose for choosing Seoul is for personal development, cultural exchange, and to challenge myself beyond what I am comfortable with. The experience and knowledge gained through this trip will change my perspective of life and will produce a more culturally interconnected state of being.

Why contribute?

By contributing, you are graciously supporting my aspirations and will hold a special place in my heart for your donation. I plan to create either a weekly or bi-weekly vlog (video blog) that summarize my experiences for that particular period of time in Seoul. Videos will be uploaded to Facebook and YouTube so you will be able to keep up with the journey!

What do I want to gain from Studying abroad?

I strongly believe all forms of art have the power to serve as a positive channel towards the global economy that facilitates cultural exchange, collaboration, and further defines the interconnectedness of the global community. As an artist, I seek to broaden my view of the concept of art itself. As a student, I am constantly searching for knowledge and experience that will edify my life experiences. As a human being, I strive to be connected to the globally expanding art communities and offer my creative insight towards a productive future. This program will contribute towards my personal development as an artist while simultaneously honing my sense of the aesthetics and beauty art contains. With this profound knowledge, I aspire to share what I will learned in a pedagogical manner and continue to explore how we as human beings interact and respond to artistic energy within our community and the world.
