My Travel Story

by: Donna Bisson Start Date: Mar 28, 2017 - End Date: Oct 4, 2017

On 8 November 2013, Tacloban City was largely destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan.

I will be travelling to Taclocan City in September 2017 to work in an orphanage supporting the vulnerable that have been further affected by the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan.  In this developing country, thousands of underprivileged children grow up in orphanages.  Most of the orphanages are understaffed but try hard to provide the basic needs of shelter, food, education, healthcare and clothing for all the children in their care, including keeping in contact with family members when it is appropriate for them to do so.

Some of the children are emotionally or developmentally delayed because of little adult interaction.  Often, the only source of their basic emotional security is from volunteers who provide affection, spend time with the children and improve their social, physical and emotional development.  The children were evacuated by the typhoon and a couple of their shelters were destroyed and so rebuilding work is taking place.

My time will be spent in one of these orphanages for a month.  I will be living with a local family and doing my best to help make a difference.

After losing both parents myself, I feel this is something that I need to do.  Trying to help others less fortunate will mean a lot.

I am looking forward to providing them with as much love and care as I can.  During my trip I will keep you all updated with pictures and blogs.

Please help me make a difference by sponsoring me.

 Thanks
Donna x
