My Travel Story

My name is Marzia Martinez, and I am an Italian student studying Business and Management. I am raising funds to support a volunteering journey in Cusco, Peru, a place that holds deep meaning for my identity, my family history, and my personal growth.
I chose Cusco because it represents the heart of Peru’s cultural heritage, traditions, and strong sense of community. It is a place where history, resilience, and human connection are deeply intertwined. Volunteering there means immersing myself in a reality where community, mutual support, and family values are central, values that I have always felt connected to, even from afar.
This journey has become even more meaningful following the recent loss of my Peruvian grandmother. Her passing has deeply affected me and awakened a strong desire to reconnect with her story and with the country she came from. She left Peru many years ago to move to Italy in order to help my mother, putting her family before everything else. Through her, I learned the importance of sacrifice, unity, and caring for one another, values that are deeply rooted in Peruvian culture.
Growing up in Italy, I never had the opportunity to fully experience this side of my identity. Today, this journey feels like a way to honor my grandmother, to get to know her roots more deeply, and to understand myself better by reconnecting with the culture she carried with her throughout her life.

From an academic and professional perspective, this experience will have a meaningful impact on my career. As a management student, volunteering in Cusco will allow me to develop skills such as adaptability, cross-cultural communication, problem-solving, and social responsibility. I strongly believe that understanding different communities and learning how to contribute in real-world contexts is essential to becoming a responsible and conscious professional.

The funds raised will be used to cover travel expenses and essential costs for the journey, allowing me to reach Cusco and fully dedicate myself to this volunteering experience without financial barriers.
By supporting this project, you are helping me take a step toward rediscovering my roots, honoring my family’s story, and transforming a personal journey into an opportunity for growth, learning, and community support.
