My Travel Story

Hi my name is Danielle. I'm creating this fundraiser on behalf of my friend Akiah. Akiah and I have been friends since high school and played basketball together. She is a single mother of a 4 year old daughter whom I call my niece. Since having her daughter she has been the sole provider. She works everyday and works extra hours everyday to make sure she can provide for her and her daughter and since she works everyday she doesn't really have weekends to enjoy with just her and her daughter. I have watched Akiah literally do everything by herself with no help from the child's father. The most he has sent in 4 years is maybe $300 if that. She's making ends meet paying for rent that has just gone up recently, paying for groceries, uniforms at a public school that her daughter just enrolled in for a 4k program because the school requires it, clothes for her daughter etc just the basic necessities that are needed to take care of a child on a daily basis. Anytime her daughter gets sick which was recently when they both had COVID (yes she's vaccinated), her job doesn't have COVID pay and she had to miss a week of work with no pay. Often times when her daughter does get sick she has to stay home from work and miss pay for that day(s).

I created this fundraiser because she deserves a vacation. She is the hardest working mom that I know and hasn't had much of a vacation in 4 years. We were talking about going to Puerto Rico with 1 of my other friends but she's just unable to go. Every little bit she has goes into taking care of her daughter and making sure she has what she needs. She deserves a much needed break. She's very strong but the stress and burden of doing this alone is taking a toll on her and I see on her face and hear it in her voice.. As her friend I hate seeing her struggle and doing this on her own. Please please donate if you can. This will be a trip for her to go to Puerto Rico, any extra amount will go toward her rent, clothes for her daughter, groceries, and things her and her daughter need to help ease the load just a little for Akiah. Thank you.
