As an advocate of children’s health and wellbeing and having worked in the NHS, I’ve been able to support children’s eating habits for the better. There, I learnt a vast amount about the impact of parenting as well as the role of nutritionists as healthcare professionals. Having worked in charity settings and organising events for the World Health Organisation, it would give me great pleasure to work in similar settings where a huge difference is made to people’s lives.

I chose Cambodia as it is a destination outside my comfort zone and completely different to the UK, where I have previously volunteered and fundraised. The opportunity would not only give me an insight into working in an environment that’s completely different to the UK, but the projects I’ll be working on will also help provide ways to improve the diet of children that rely on what grows in their gardens and trees alone. I will also be working with the cook and other staff members to come up with new nutritious meals that will help optimise nutrition for the children at this village.

I embrace diversity and as a bilingual individual would be thrilled to work in an environment with different values and skills, trusting and enabling new creative ideas to flourish from other people’s values and their approaches. This shapes the development of a person and we can build on each other’s strengths with skills we bring to the Cambodian community.
