My Travel Story

by: Renee Lavigne Start Date: Feb 4, 2024 - End Date: Jun 3, 2024
Greetings to my family, my friends and to you friendly stranger!

My name is Renee and I am getting ready to embark on a life-changing journey. Thank you kindly for being here and reading about my fundraiser!

Before getting into the particulars, here is some eye-opening information about the area where I'm going:

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Zambia has a doctor-patient ratio of one doctor for every 12,000 patients, which is below the WHO's acceptable standard of one physician for every 5,000 people. Also, for people who live in low-income communities in Zambia, healthcare is neither accessible nor affordable. While the Zambian government is striving to solve the problem, underprivileged and marginalized communities are often the ones who suffer the most.” (taken from the World Vision International website, article dated April 21, 2022).

From ceicdata.com: Zambia monthly earnings stood at $211 USD in Dec 2021.

From worldbank.org: Zambia ranks among the countries with the highest levels of poverty and inequality globally.

*** V o l u n t e e r s    a r e     n e e d e d!!***

I will be spending 4 weeks in and around Livingstone, Zambia in Africa at the end of May and beginning of June of 2024, volunteering as a nurse. The privilege offered to me is a dream come true, something I have imagined doing for many years, to offer help and support and, especially, to give back. My passion about equality and human rights paired with hard work, initiative, and using whatever resources are available all encourage me to give my best, I am ready!

My volunteering will particularly help to:
  • Support clinics providing healthcare in low-income communities
  • Improve access to affordable medical care and treatment
Help me help them! You are just a few clicks away from supporting not only me, but especially all the wonderful people in Zambia whom I will have the privilege to care for. Help me help them; let me be your eyes, arms and legs and be there with the underprivileged, representing a country, a continent, a world that has so much to give.

Help me help them! Every dollar counts, really!

What you will get from supporting me is the satisfaction of knowing that a committed, dedicated and caring person will be helping human beings who desperately need it.

Every human being deserves healthcare. And I simply cannot do this without your support.

With my sincere gratitude,
Renee

* In the spirit of giving back, I'll be sending prints of some of my pictures in Zambia to the ones who will be supporting me, hence the video with samples of my photos.

*** If I surpass my goal; I will then purchase supplies that are needed overthere and easy to pack (or have it shipped); or purchase them in-country to stimulate their economy. Items like medical supplies, vitamins, school and hygiene supplies.
