My Travel Story

by: Ambrelle Scally Start Date: Mar 5, 2026 - End Date: Jul 4, 2026
Studying abroad in Hungary through the course Psychology of Intergroup Conflict in Europe is an opportunity for me to take my education beyond textbooks and experience psychology in a real-world cultural context. As a psychology student, I am deeply interested in understanding how history, culture, identity, and social systems influence human behavior. Learning about intergroup conflict while physically being in Europe, where many historical and modern conflicts have shaped societies, will allow me to gain a deeper and more meaningful understanding of these complex topics.
This experience will have a powerful impact on my education and future career. Psychology is not just about studying individuals, but it is also about understanding communities, relationships, and the ways groups interact with one another. By exploring the psychological roots of intergroup conflict in Europe, I will gain insight into prejudice, identity, cooperation, and reconciliation. These are critical topics for anyone hoping to work in fields related to psychology, human development, and community well-being. Seeing these concepts through the lens of another culture will strengthen my ability to think critically, empathize with diverse perspectives, and apply psychological knowledge to real-world issues.
I am passionate about this opportunity because I believe that understanding people from different backgrounds is essential to building stronger and more compassionate communities. Learning about intergroup conflict also means learning about solutions and how societies can move toward cooperation, understanding, and peace. I hope to bring these lessons back with me and apply them in my own community by encouraging empathy, open dialogue, and respect for different perspectives.
I chose Hungary because it offers a unique cultural and historical setting to explore these ideas. Hungary sits at the crossroads of many European cultures and historical events, making it an incredibly meaningful place to study how group identities, social divisions, and cultural histories influence the way communities interact. Being immersed in this environment will allow me to connect academic theory with lived history and real-world experiences.
This opportunity is deeply meaningful to me because it represents growth, both academically and personally. Studying abroad will challenge me to step outside my comfort zone, expand my worldview, and develop a deeper understanding of the people and societies around me. As someone pursuing a career in psychology, experiences like this help shape the empathy, cultural awareness, and critical thinking skills that are essential for making a positive difference in the world.
Your support would help make this transformative educational experience possible, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to pursue learning that extends far beyond the classroom.
