My Travel Story

by: Callen Buchanan Start Date: Feb 28, 2020 - End Date: Mar 28, 2020
Good morning! Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read my campaign. My name is Callen, I'm 22 years old. I got my EMT license at 16 and have been an independent since I was 17. I successfully paid 3 semesters at VCU out of pocket before my mental health really started getting in the way. Due to some family turmoil, last year I was given joint custody of my littler brother who is on the spectrum (he's the one in the graduation cap!) right after that I was diagnosed with bipolar 2. I've been getting help and doing well, but I had a medication change a few weeks ago and I was not myself. So much so that I actually lost my job less than a month before I'm supposed to go to Seattle to look at places to possibly live that can also accommodate my brother. Im from rural southwest VA so most of the time people never even leave the state, but I have always dreamed of moving across the country and going new places, trying new food. I want to work in human rights, I will never be able to do a job that isn't helping people. All I want is to make the world a better place but it feels like the world keeps kicking me so I can't. If I miss this trip it will probably set me back another year, and I've worked so hard to get to this point it would kill me to do it all over again. I bought these tickets a couple months ago, and I have some savings but only enough for rent and groceries the next 2 months before I have absolutely nothing. I have some job interviews this week and I sell pet portraits so I have been pushing them, but I can't make people buy my products. I know I can get another job, but it's doubtful that I would get a paycheck before my trip. If you would like to buy a pet portrait, my instagram for my little business is @palsbycal. Literally anything would be helpful and I would be eternally grateful.
