My Travel Story

by: Nasir Williams Start Date: May 15, 2025 - End Date: Nov 14, 2025
After being diagnosed with bipolar disorder while serving in the U.S. military, I was medically retired in 2017. Since then, I’ve been on a long journey of healing, growth, and spiritual self-discovery. This year, I’m finally in a grounded and stable place—mentally, emotionally, and financially. For the first time in nearly a decade, I’m ready to step into a dream I’ve held onto all these years: traveling to Thailand for a solo healing and cultural exchange journey.

I chose Thailand because it has always called to me—not just for its breathtaking beauty, but for its deeply rooted spiritual culture, its warmth, and its spirit of hospitality. I’m drawn to the temples, the sacred sites, the way mindfulness and respect are woven into daily life. I believe it’s the perfect place for me to reflect, reconnect with myself, and continue healing in an environment that invites presence, peace, and connection.

This trip is more than a vacation. It’s a personal rite of passage. While in Thailand, I plan to volunteer through WorldPackers, support local hostels, visit sacred spaces, and build relationships with people from around the world. I’ll be staying in shared homes, immersed in community—just like I do now, living in a co-living space with 70+ people in San Francisco.

As a 100% disabled veteran, I receive monthly compensation to cover basic needs, but not international travel. Your support will help cover flights, lodging, food, transportation, and volunteer materials.

What makes this meaningful for me is that it represents a return to life—not just surviving, but truly living. It’s a chance to see the world again through open eyes, to reclaim the part of me that has always longed for connection, beauty, and cultural exchange. After years of internal work, this journey is an outward reflection of the healing that’s taken root within me.

I also want this trip to feel shared. If you have suggestions, travel advice, or places in Thailand you think I should visit, please share them. I’ll do my best to honor those contributions while I’m in the country—and find ways to reflect back what you’ve offered me, even from across the globe.

This isn’t just about a destination. It’s about becoming whole. And I’d be honored to have your support in making it real.

  • $630 Raised — My Heart Is Full

I just want to take a moment to say thank you — truly.

In just one week, we’ve raised $630, and every single dollar has brought me closer to this sacred journey. Whether you gave $10 or $350, your support has moved me in ways I can’t fully describe.

This trip to Thailand isn’t just about travel — it’s about healing, becoming, and returning to myself after years of being named by systems that never truly saw me.
