My Travel Story

From the time I was young, I dreamed of travelling. I consumed endless books about other times and places, and I was even given the opportunity to travel to Europe twice in high school. Throughout my time in college I have taken learning about the world to a new level through majoring in International Development Studies focusing on East Asia and the Middle East, as well as making numerous friends from other countries. However, my main interest is China and everything about it, ranging from its history to economic development. I have dedicated four years to learning Chinese, and now in my final year of college I am hoping to finally travel to China and see the place I have spent four years studying. I plan on attending Tianjin Foreign Studies University for a short-term intensive language program to rapidly improve my language skills. Tianjin literally means "the Heavenly Ford", and is known for its beautiful bridges. It is also conveniently located thirty minutes south by train from Beijing. The duration of my study at Tianjin Foreign Studies University is March 30th to May 1st, but prior to that I will be attending a conference at Peking University in Beijing. I have been invited by my mentor and professor who is also the main coordinator and lecturer for this conference.
