My Travel Story

My Secondary school, George Abbot, is providing the extraordinary opportunity to travel to Tanzania at the age of sixteen. This trip is important as we will be going out to visit one of George Abbot's worldwide partner schools - Mukidoma.

This is an amazing school as they take in students who will otherwise not be able to pay for education. Mukidoma is also one of the only schools in Tanzania to protect the many Albino students they accommodate. In this part of Africa Albinos are often hunted by witch doctors who incorrectly believe that their bones hold magical powers. They do not, in fact all that differs from an Albino or You and I, is a lack of the pigment Melanin, which gives hair, skin and eyes their colour.

Because of the sheer number of children who could greatly benefit from the amazing education Mukidoma offers, the headmaster has started to build a second school nearby. This is The Voice School. At this moment in time, the building is incomplete, lacking a water supply, electricity and any roofs, This is why i have been offered this trip, to help finish the school and potentially save lives.

On top of this, we will go to a nearby village and build a clean water tap for their use, this also has the huge potential to save countless lifes, and go on a three day educational hiking trip.
