Hey everyone! There are two trips together in one here:

For the WPA Conference, it will be my first conference at which I will present two papers (including my very first one as the principal investigator)! This is a very important part of both my academic and career growth. I will be presenting one paper as a research assistant that examines the developing relationship of a mother and infant, and one paper as the principle investigator that looks at the relationships between mindset, future time perspective, and subjective happiness. The latter is part of a collaboration with Psi Beta, the Psychology Honors Society for community college students, of which I have been a member and officer. The link to the convention is:  http://westernpsych.org/convention/

To cut down on expenses for the conference, I will be sharing a room with another person and possibly ridesharing.

For Kenya, I am working with Upendo Women's Foundation, a wonderful non-profit that makes and sends sanitary kits to young girls in Africa, as sadly, many don't have access to these products. The company helps to alleviate the spread of blood-borne diseases, unnecessary health problems, and helps to further the education of all of the young women it serves by allowing them to continue to attend school during menstruation. I have raised and will continue to raise money and materials for this cause through Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society for community college students, of which I am currently our chapter's president. You can find their site here:  http://upendowomensfoundation.org/

I feel very strongly about this work and very much hope that this can be my first trip outside of the United States. This plane ticket will be the bulk of the expenses I've asked for, as tickets back and forth to another continent are rather expensive. Once there, I will be provided with food and lodging.

Additionally, I will be raising funds on my own with bakesales and raffles, but unfortunately, I can't do it all on my own.

I have worked very hard for both of these amazing trips. I am extremely excited and grateful that I have the opportunity (especially as a community college student) to participate in both of them, and I hope you feel the same way.

Thank you so very much!!

-Katori

P.S. For those with limited funds, a small amount goes a long way!
