My Travel Story

As an undergraduate, psychology student looking to pursue a career in academia, getting an opportunity to study abroad is extremely important to me.  I think that interacting with people whose attitudes, cultures, and values are different from my own is essential to formulating novel ideas.  That is to say, ideas of the relevant type are not created in a vacuum, but are the result of considering a problem from many perspectives.  Exposure to varied perspectives teaches the mind to consider possibilities, which it wouldn’t otherwise consider in the evaluation of a problem.  As ideas are central to academic success as an undergraduate, during graduate studies, and continuing with post-doctoral and faculty positions, I view studying abroad as an important component to achieving my goals.

I am very much looking forward to this trip, its challenges, and to the enrichment that it will bring to my academic and personal life.
