Hello there!

My name is Sophia Le and I am an honors student at Arizona State University. As an aspiring medical student, I am really interested in pursuing this study abroad internship in Nicaragua. In Nicaragua, I would be traveling to different areas around the country and observing local physicians. This program will allow me to experience firsthand what it truly means to be a physician and help those who are in need. Being born in the United States meant that I easily had access to the best medical care, clean water, sanitation and education available anywhere in the world. However, children born in developing countries such as Nicaragua die every day from dehydration, malnutrition, and other preventable diseases. With this study abroad, I want to be able to make a difference in the lives of the people that I meet in Nicaragua.

The degree of rigor that accompanies becoming a doctor is a challenge worth the sacrifice as I would be making a greater impact within the world of medicine. Being able to save lives and help improve the quality of life for many people would be rewarding. Ultimately, when I become a doctor, I want to be able to travel to developing countries around the world and offer my services to local healthcare facilities and provide treatment to patients who would not normally have access to the kinds of medication that we in the United States have. As a result, this program will bring me a step closer to achieving my dreams.

Unfortunately, due to financial circumstances, it is really difficult for me to afford this study abroad next summer by myself. I am working to fund my trip abroad, but I also have to pay for school tuition next semester as well other financial obligations. Going on this study abroad would be a dream come true and I appreciate any help that comes my way!
