My Travel Story

by: William Sledge Start Date: May 17, 2025 - End Date: Nov 16, 2025
I have been accepted to go on Miami University's "The Way is El Camino" Study Abroad program. For 3 weeks, I will be taking a course in Spain while hiking along "The Way of Saint James", a pilgrimage path leading to one of Medieval Iberia's most important cathedrals. During this time, we'll be hiking about 12 to 14 miles a day across Spain, interacting with locals while learning more about Spain's culture and history.

I want to take this program for several reasons. Firstly, it will help me work towards my Spanish Minor, getting me 6 credit hours, nearly a third of the required credit hours. It will also fulfill my "Experiential Learning" requirement, which I need to graduate. Secondly, it will help me practice my Spanish in its native environment. The best way to learn a language is to talk to native speakers and this will give me ample opportunity to do so. And lastly, the most personal reason is I find history to be incredibly interesting, as anyone who knows me can tell you. This will give me an opportunity to learn about a country's history directly, rather than just hearing lectures or watching videos about it.

However, in order for me to do all of this, I am going to need some financial help. College is expensive, study abroad even more so. If it is within your means, I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can give. Any amount helps.

Thank you and I hope you have a good rest of your day!

At the moment, I am about $3,600 short of being able to pay for the program. This number only includes funds I know I have on hand. So if you or someone you know is able to help me getting closer to making up that difference, please do. Any amount helps!
