Coral restoration & sea turtle rehabilitation in the Maldives
My Travel Story
Beginning in September, I have been given the prestigious opportunity to travel to the Maldives in December for 3 months to assist with coral conservation efforts and sea turtle rehabilitation in the North Male Atoll.
I am told my tasks there will vary week-by-week depending on requirements and the weather, but most work will be related to the marine discovery centres' "Reefscapers coral propagation programme"
Examples of the tasks I will be helping with are:
* I will be working 6 days a week, 9:00am to 6:00pm, with occasional evenings
* Reefscapers – maintenance and photographing of coral frames
* Coral propositions & identification of sonar corals
* Coral juvenile cleaning & maintenance
* Turtle Rehabilitation – assisting with feeding, medical treatment, cleaning, pool maintenance
* Turtle ID – photographing wild turtles on snorkel safari, to identify and add to database
* Turtle Nest Protection – promoting the programme, scouting islands for turtle nests
This is an excellent opportunity for me to begin a career in marine research and gain hands on experience with coral restoration efforts as well as assisting with the sea turtle rehabilitation project, something close to my heart.
I will need to fund my own flights out to the Maldives and any pre-departure neccessities such as vaccinations, insurance, visa and equipment/uniform for use whilst i'm there. Any donations will be gratefully accepted and I look forward to keeping you all updated as the months count down to the Maldives!
