My Travel Story

by: Erika Mixon Start Date: Apr 18, 2019 - End Date: Aug 17, 2019
Greetings Good People,

I would like to take a moment to share an amazing opportunity recently presented to E.Latrice Art ! As a visual artist I have been given the chance of a lifetime to spread my love for art and creativity half-way around the world in Tanzania,Africa and I am beyond excited. I’ve teamed up with a local non-profit organization in their region known as "AIM Tanzania" https://www.facebook.com/AfricaIntegrativeMedicine/ , to offer my artistic expertise. We’re collaborating to develop a startup art program where I will host art classes at one of the local orphanages in the city of Arusha by the name of "The Nuru Trust" with the intent to establish an on-going art program upon my departure.

This Children’s home provides a safe space to orphaned, abused, and desperate children and young adults who could definitely benefit from a creative outlet along with their daily needs. This is a chance to make a meaningful impact to well-deserving children who have endured more hardships than one should have to bear as a child. This will be a labor of love that I’m more than honored to share with hopes to ignite & nurture their own creative spirit & positivity. With your help I will be able to manifest a dream into a reality.

I will be spending a total of 10 days in the city of Arusha from August 27th- Sept. 5th. In addition to my volunteer efforts, I am also looking forward to exploring the sights while learning about a culture that I have only had the opportunity to read about or watch via media outlets. This trip is the best real-world experience I could ask for and a way for me to gain new perspective and inspiration while pushing myself to try something new in art and beyond .

Of course, a trip of this magnitude coupled with a program startup is no easy feat for a group let alone one person. Even as a working professional and part-time visual artist, raising funds for a project of this size is a challenge, but I embrace it wholeheartedly. Therefore, outside of the valued support I often receive through encouragement and local art projects I am looking for donors, such as you, to sponsor a portion of my experience. This would mean so much to me and the children that I will be blessed to work with in Africa. In addition to your sponsorship, I will be conducting various fundraising efforts online with a limited-edition custom designed t-shirt via link beliow, as well as locally while also paying for a portion of the expenses myself. Be sure to visit my website at www.elatriceart.com to stay updated. Ultimately, my goal is to raise $3000 by August 1, 2019. All gifts would go towards travel, volunteer fees, and materials. I would be more than grateful for any donation you are willing to contribute.

I know that I’ve made it to where I am today because of the amazing people in my life such as yourself, and I hope you will join me in this next step. I appreciate your time and thank you in advance for your support. I can’t wait to share my experiences with you after my tour!

 With Gratitude,
