My Travel Story

We're heading back to El Salvador!

Since 2006, a group of 100+ highschoolers and adults from Young Life have traveled to El Salvador to support the wonderful families who live in the village of Rancho Grande. Throughout the week that we are in Rancho students and staff hold a medical clinic for all families of the village, host a shoe drive, help build latrines and houses within the community and build meaningful, life long relationships with the people of Rancho!

This year I (Emma) will be traveling back to Rancho for my 7th trip and my younger sister Grace will be returning for her 5th trip.

As a nurse, I have the amazing opportunity to work along side doctors, PAs, a dentist and an oral surgeon to help provide medical care to all the children and adults in Rancho. Each year we bring supplies to help combat any illness from high blood pressure and blood sugar to asthma and infection. Along with the medical supplies, we also make it a part of our mission to supply families with their yearly need of simple toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower products and feminine hygiene products.

While I spend a majority of my time in the clinic, Grace is off helping to build the foundations for houses and latrines, such as mixing cement and digging trenche. If she isn't working in the construction areas you can find Grace running around playing with all the children in the village.

This trip without a doubt has become a yearly tradition for both Grace and I.  Rancho is a place where we find immense happiness and we are reminded that we have so much to be thankful for.

Thank you for taking time to read just a snippet about what makes Rancho Grande so incredible. We appreciate any donations towards our trip as they help to cover the cost of travel, food, and supplies for the village.
