My name is Kelvin  and I’m a 28-year-old california I’ve spent my entire life in the U.S., dreaming of the day I could finally step outside my country and see the world. Coming from a poor background, travel has always felt out of reach—something for other people, but never for me. Now, I have an opportunity to change that, and I need your help to make it happen.

Japan has always fascinated me—the rich history, the vibrant culture, and the way tradition and modernity blend seamlessly. From the ancient temples of Kyoto to the neon-lit streets of Tokyo, this country represents everything I’ve longed to experience. But more than just sightseeing, I want to immerse myself in the culture, learn from its people, and see life from a perspective completely different from my own.

Experiencing Japan will open doors for me in ways I never imagined. Seeing how another culture operates—from its work ethic to its community values—will shape how I approach my own personal and professional goals. Whether it’s through networking, learning a new language, or simply broadening my worldview, this journey will make me a stronger, more well-rounded person. I hope to take what I learn and apply it to my career, whether in business, creativity, or community work.

I know firsthand what it feels like to grow up with limited opportunities, and I want to inspire others—especially young Black people from low-income backgrounds—to dream bigger. By documenting my journey and sharing my experiences, I hope to show that travel is possible, even for those who feel like they don’t belong in that world. I want to break stereotypes and prove that we deserve to explore, to learn, and to be part of the global community.

This trip represents more than just travel—it’s about proving to myself (and others like me) that we are not limited by where we come from. It’s about challenging the idea that some experiences are only for the privileged. It’s about growth, self-discovery, and creating a story that will hopefully inspire someone else to take their first step beyond their borders.
