My Travel Story

I am a first year medical student who wants to go help the community in Costa Rica and provide them with healthcare they wouldn't usually be able to get. We will be working with clinics and setting up areas in the rural community for people to get checked up who live too far to get healthcare. This will impact my education and career because this will expose me to the cultural differences they have in their healthcare and beliefs versus ours. I have always loved going on medical trips because it allows you to see how different cultures and communities provide healthcare and you are able to improvise with what you are given in order to help the community. Another big aspect of going on trips like this is educating the patients so that they can be healthier on their own and help other family or members in the community.
