My Travel Story

by: Cameron P Start Date: Sep 16, 2025 - End Date: Jan 15, 2026
My name is Cam, and I work in and study human rights. I am very involved in activism for Palestinian rights, disability justice, and queer liberation. This winter, I have an incredible opportunity to attend Achvat Amim’s Winter Solidarity Visit. I was initially supposed to be part of the Summer Solidarity Cohort, but that program was postponed to December due to the war with Iran. Through this revised program, I will spend three weeks living in Jerusalem engaging in meaningful partnerships with Israelis and Palestinians in the movement for justice and liberation. In order to attend the program, I need to raise $3,000 in tuition. So far, I have raised $300 towards that goal. I am raising the remaining $2700, plus the 5% fee for fundmytravel.

What is the program?
Achvat Amim's (Solidarity of Nations) Winter Solidarity Visit is a program committed to “self determination for all people in the place they call home” and combines critical education and solidarity work to equip activists with the skills and relationships they need to build the movement for justice and freedom for all in Palestine-Israel. Over the three weeks, I will be joining a dynamic learning community, exploring and shaping Jewish culture, identity, and activism as well as gaining critical frameworks for understanding power, change-making, and movement-building. I will be living communally in the heart of Jerusalem, building and taking part in a critical and democratic learning process, volunteering with prominent human rights organizations, and engaging in spiritual learning and growth. I will also be intensively studying Arabic so that I can more effectively communicate with and learn from Palestinians. As a community we will directly partake in solidarity work together on the ground with Palestinian partners.

Why am I passionate about this project?
This work is deeply important to me, both in my work in human rights and as a Jew. I hope that participating in Achvat Amim's program will better equip me to advocate for Palestinian rights, particularly in terms of access to healthcare, water, and housing. I also understand the influence and power I have as a Jew in Israel-Palestine and I feel that it is my responsibility to use my privilege to help others.

How will I benefit?
I believe the program will provide me with the incredible opportunity to build connections in Palestine-Israel and explore Jerusalem within a progressive Jewish spiritual framework. It will also enable me to develop crucial community-building skills, improve my Arabic and Hebrew, and give me the chance to work with and learn from fantastic organizations and individuals! Throughout the program, I hope to learn from activists in Israel-Palestine, materially support Palestinians through my time volunteering, and take the skills I gain back to my organizing in New York.
