Study Abroad at the Paris School of Business
My Travel Story
Why I want to travel/study abroad?
From a young age, I have always been one to say “yes” to new experiences and travels, which is why studying abroad at the Paris School of Business feels like a natural next step for me. Growing up in a big family of seven, my house was always full of people, and we often hosted guests–including a foreign exchange student, Paula, from Madrid, Spain, who quickly became like family to us. I first met Paula when I was 10 years old, and I will never forget her vibrant personality and how she instantly greeted me with kisses on both cheeks. Since meeting her, our families have maintained very close relationships, with my family traveling and visiting her abroad in Europe, and her family traveling and visiting us here in California. Paula’s mother, Eva, was born and raised in Paris, which has also deepened my connection to the city and made me feel as though I already have a family-like bond there. Hosting foreign exchange students, family, and others in need has taught me how to easily adjust to different personalities and environments, inspiring me to travel and connect with people from all over the world. In addition, these experiences have helped me realize how much a person’s environment–where they come from, the language they speak, and their culture— shapes their approach to life. This has inspired me to immerse myself in different parts of the world, which is why Paris, a place known for its rich history and culture, feels like the perfect next place for me.
Why I want to study at the Paris School of Business?
What excites me the most about studying at the Paris School of Business (PSB) is the opportunity to learn more about the luxury and fashion industries. These industries have always fascinated me, and Paris is home to some of the most influential brands, such as Chanel, Dior, YSL, and Louis Vuitton. PSB offers programs tailored to key areas of marketing, such as Luxury & Fashion Management, with various courses focused on the history of luxury, sales techniques, and luxury brand management. As a Business Marketing major and someone who loves to attract, engage, and connect with different people, I believe that immersing myself in Paris, a global hub for all things business and fashion, will enrich my academic and professional journey. In addition, during this past summer, I worked a marketing internship with the company IPORT, a redesigned system for holding, charging, and protecting iPads in an enterprise environment. Throughout this internship, I gained valuable experience collaborating with companies in a variety of industries, including restaurants like Chipotle and Sweetgreen, as well as fire departments like the Long Beach Fire Department. However, I always felt the most inspired when dealing with our retail clients, such as Sephora, Victoria’s Secret, and American Eagle. This realization ultimately motivated me to further pursue a marketing career in the fashion or retail industry. Considering Paris is the fashion capital of the world, PSB feels like the perfect place to dive deeper into this field and help prepare me for my future career goals.
As someone born and raised in San Clemente, a small beach city just an hour north of San Diego, I have never truly lived outside of Southern California or experienced a “big city” like Paris. I would be so excited to navigate this new chapter abroad and gain a whole new experience not only on my academics, but also on a new way of life. Thank you so much for any donations!
