My Travel Story

When asked how this will be meaningful, I cannot describe the images in my mind. The enrichment I will absorb will be humbling as well as immensely educational.

Teaching children, caring for elephants, and immersing myself in the local customs of Thailand as I gain invaluable leadership skills will be an experience that I will bring back to my own country, as a starting point to share and create awareness. As a senior in college, to experience the jungle landscape of Thailand and close interaction and assistance I will be providing for the care of Asian elephants will truly be magical! North of Chiang Mai is said to provide rural communities  as well as the wildlife where I will be living for 4 weeks! I will teach, build, protect, lead, push my boundaries, and immerse myself into a very colorful culture.

Teaching: From teaching English to planting fresh farm produce for a sustainable farming project , I will encourage children to come to school by making it more fun as resources are lacking and run down.

Build: Hands-on community projects  help improve the standard of living in villages that are under-developed. We will help people to help themselves with income generating projects like greenhouses and water infrastructure. This is humanity at its finest, with leaders and other students from other countries.

Protect: There is a strong connection between Thai people and their elephants. Due to habitat loss and poaching, they are endangered. From bathing to planting food for them, I will help provide a highly valued service to the community. I will develop my own deep connection with these animals while enhancing my leadership skills by understanding the purpose of wildlife organizations: bringing humans and animals together to protect our planet’s species.

Lead: My leadership skills will definitely be strengthened as I gain a sense of achievement where my efforts will truly matter.

Push my Boundaries: As a college student from Colorado, I will be in an unfamiliar place. I will be able to look at myself differently, from a new perspective. I will be doing things I never dreamed I could do, on a whole new level. I will become a better person by helping others.

Immersion: Whether this involves Thai cuisine, or cultural and religious differences, it will be an incredible moment in my life that will live inside of me forever.

Living life to the fullest as my philosophy will only be tapped by this experience, and hopefully open many more doors in my future.
