¡Hola!
I have been honored to be accepted to go to San Jose, Costa Rica for a study abroad trip this summer. I am approaching my Junior year at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and have finally gotten the opportunity to go on this once and a lifetime trip. I am originally from a small town of under 30,000 people, where I lived and grew up on a farm, so being able to explore and adventure outside of rural Nebraska is extremely exciting to me. Growing up in a lower middle-class family I have been blessed with parents whose goal is to give me a world that they cannot afford. I am proudly independent and have paid for every living expense on my own since I was 18. Although this is a trip of a lifetime, it will be holding me back financially, by preventing me from working full time over the summer. I am so appreciative and honored for any donations that I may receive.
During my 5 weeks stay in Costa Rica, I will be taking an intense Spanish learning class at the Universidad de Veritas. There I will be fully immersed in the Spanish language while I live with a host family and partake in the daily customs that the people of Costa Rica hold dear to their hearts. I am so excited to learn and be a part of such an amazing place.
This experience is so important to me because I will use it to impact my community. I need this experience to help further my future goals because I plan to become a Spanish closer and title officer in the Omaha area someday. Although we have a large population of Spanish speakers in my area, there are not enough businesses that share bilingual options. I hope to create a comfortable environment for Spanish speakers, where they can have the confidence that they aren't being swindled because they were not given the proper explanation of legal documentation. I believe that this is an overlooked area in my community and it's my goal to bring equality opportunities for all people. On this trip I will utilize every resource to its fullest to learn the ins and outs of the Spanish language that I couldn't do in a regular classroom at home.
I appreciate you taking your precious time to read this and I am so grateful for any donations. Anything helps because I will be using this resource for food, community experiences, airfare, and schooling costs. I also plan to borrow my friends GoPro to take awesome videos of this trip to make a blog and share Costa Rica with the world. Thank you so much for your support!
