My Travel Story

        Hello! I'm MJ, and I'm running this campaign to help me fund my move to Australia this fall. 
        Traveling the world has always been a dream of mine, and I got a taste of it earlier this year when I had the incredible opportunity to go on a backpacking trip to Thailand. While I was on that trip, I realized two things: one, that I was the happiest that I'd ever been in my life; and two, that I couldn't keep living in the United States. When I got back, I spent weeks researching where I could go, and what the different kinds of immigration options were. I eventually decided on Australia, mostly due to its geopolitical location and opportunities, as well as other factors, such as my family heritage having Australian roots. 
        The decision to leave my home country was not an easy one to make. To completely leave behind everything I've ever known and start a new life, my own life, is absolutely terrifying, yet also exhilarating. I am leaving to make my own path and find out who I truly am. But I'm not just motivated by dreams- I also fear for my safety living in the United States. The recent political and social turbulence has made this country an increasingly dangerous place to live-  and, to be blunt, I want to get out of this country before anything bad happens to me. So, I am leaving in pursuit of a better, happier, and more fulfilling life, and also to improve my feelings of safety and security in my life.
        I am a hard worker, and I am very responsible and frugal. I funded my trip to Thailand entirely with my own money I had saved from working. I have had a basic financial education and am very good at planning and managing money. However, even with the most meticulous budgeting I can manage, moving to another country is still an enormous expense. I am also currently engaged in starting my own business, which has the potential to provide me with a good source of income in the future, but is currently taking up most of the time that I have to generate other sources of income. I set up this fundraiser because I would like to feel more secure in my finances when I move, and to feel less stressed and be able to spend more time settling in when I arrive in Australia. 
        As far as immigration requirements and living expenses/needs, I have thoroughly researched everything needed for me to move. I am going to get a working holiday visa, which will enable me to stay in Australia for up to 3 years, and I plan to get a job as soon as I can after I arrive. I have made categorized lists of all the different jobs that I will apply for once I arrive, and I also hope that by that time my business will be a source of income as well. I'm not the type to ask for money, as I was raised with the principle of "if you want something, you work for it", but I don't want to wait any longer to chase my dream life. I am hoping that this fundraiser can give me the extra help I need to do so. Any and all donations are incredibly appreciated, and you will recieve my endless gratitude.
