My Travel Story

Hey everyone! My name is Kourtney and I am fundraising for the Abroad Program co-provided by Arizona State University and CIEE.

My program will allow me to travel to 3 destinations:
Sydney, Australia
Paris, France
Rome, Italy

The program starts on January 2nd, 2024.

This program is important to me because I am a Graphic Design Major with Minors in Anthropology and Global Studies.
These 3 areas of study all have one major connection -- communication and connectivity.

By studying these 3 areas, I can learn how to effectively communicate better with people in societies and connect with them across the world.

This is also why going abroad is important to me. I have lived in the Mid-West USA all my life. I am an online student while working a full-time job. I am also somewhat introverted and socially awkward at times. This causes issues communicating with others verbally, which could put a strain on my future career if not corrected.

By participating in this program, I will be allowed to not only learn about different societies and their ways of communicating but also test my personal limits in adaptivity, education, communication, and creativity.
I want to use this program to inspire new innovations in graphic design that will span across the globe and unite people from all backgrounds.
This program will allow me to study 3 different cultures, their art, and their history so that I may use this knowledge and create inspiring designs to connect with the world.

I will be documenting my journey on my personal blog The College Life, so follow me as I go through the application processes, the scholarships, the fundraising, and eventually the adventure abroad itself!

This program cost is rounded to roughly $30,000 total (both fees and personal expenses). I would like to raise at least $11,000 to help ensure my participation.

Any and all funds earned will be put towards my program cost first and to pay for travel (planes, public transport), room & board, visas, educational excursions (museums, landmarks, etc.), meals, and then finally personal interests like famous forests, nature/animal preserves and any opportunities/workshops/etc. to connect with people and to get more education in graphic design/anthropology/global studies.

I am applying for all the Scholarships and Grants I can get, but I still need help so that I may learn uninhibited while abroad.
