My Travel Story

Traveling the world has many benefits for all ages. Whether it is for a retirement trip or a simple get-away from home, it can benefit many, but traveling the world for people under 18 can help with determining goals, careers, and even assist in managing personal tasks throughout life. Here are some of the benefits traveling the world under 18 can have.

Traveling outside the country under the age of 18 can helpyoung people become more independent. Learning what to do and how to handle yourself when visiting other countries can help make traveling easier as you get older. You won’t be as nervous when traveling because you will have become a world traveler with first-hand experience.

Traveling would give me an opportunity to learn more about different cultures and countries, without the added stress of life, meaning having to go to work and having to pay bills.  I guess it would be an opportunity to explore and learn without any worries.   There are opportunities to explore other cultures, different foods, art, and artist as well as traditions and landmarks.  I believe young children do not automatically have biases about different cultures they are taught at home, so if we are given the opportunity to travel to another country, we can learn more about different cultures and break pre-existing stereotypes. Learning more about other countries and cultures when traveling can make us more aware and open-minded and acceptant of our differences.  This trip will give me the opportunity to interact with people that don’t look like me, don’t talk like me and might not have the same views as I do, but I will learn about what life is like for them, what is important to them and I might find out that we might not be that different at all.

If given the opportunity to travel to Athens, Greece, Romeand Italy, for some of us it will be a first. A first time on a plane,first time out of the country, first one in the family to have this opportunity. Being able to travel outside of the United Statesbefore becoming an adult would be an accomplishment in and of itself.   

Traveling under 18 will benefit me if I ever get a job that deals with another culture and language that is different from mine. Traveling now will help prepare me to work later with others who differ from me socially and culturally.  If given this opportunity, I will gain a sense of independence, awareness and learn more about life and the world I live in.  This would be a life changing experience.
