My Travel Story

by: FMT User Start Date: Aug 24, 2016 - End Date: Dec 23, 2016
Hello, lovely ladies and gents!

Why have I started this campaign?
For those of you who know me or know anything about Psychology you'll know just how long the route is to becoming qualified. Even after acheiving my degrees I have struggled to obtain a role where I can gain relevant psychological experience.

Fortunately, SLV have offered me a place on the Graduate Mental Health Placement in Sri Lanka for 12 weeks. SLV was founded by psychology graduates who also faced the same challenges as me in trying to get experience without any experience. They designed this placement for volunteers to gain real life experience working in the mental health sector and alongside mental health professionals in Sri Lanka. So this is an amazing opportunity!

What will I be doing in Sri Lanka?
  • Working in a psychiatric unit and mental health care home one day a week
  • Running activities with special needs children
  • Teaching English to children/people from the local community
  • Attending workshops and field visits run by mental health professionals

This opportunity is something I am very excited and passionate about and is the perfect way for me to get relevant experience, which will help me progress in my career, as well as being able to see a little more of the world.

I thought I would give fundraising a try to help fund part of this trip, (alongside working ridiculously long hours and saving, saving, saving!). Therefore any donation will be hugely appreciated and will make all the difference to myself and more importantly the Sri Lankan people I will be able to help!

Thank you :)
Tanika
