My Travel Story

Hello! My name is Elena! I am a college student at Loyola University Chicago; I have been studying abroad in Rome, Italy, and decided to prolong my stay here for a couple of weeks by doing a volunteer program. I am enrolled in Sustainable Farming here in Rome, in addition to my current internship at the Joel Nafuma Refugee Center, where I help out with clothing distribution and teach English! Doing this sustainable farming program will allow me to expand my knowledge of the Mediterranean diet and foods unique to this area and try to impact the community here in Rome. Loyola Chicago significantly emphasizes environmental sustainability; I am excited to see similarities and differences between an American Urban space and a European one. Doing this program is the best of both worlds because people learn about the environment and continue my relationships at the JNRC in Rome. This is a meaningful experience because it allows me to learn outside of a classroom, which helps me gain worldly experiences for my future career.
