El Camino means The Way, The Path, The Journey

Mary Stargel here, if this is our first time meeting, hello there. I met our mutual friend, sister, companion and fellow human being about 5 years ago at L'Abri Fellowship in Southborough, MA.

On May 6th, Meghan Katzenberger will be graduating from UTC. This day marks the beginning of new adventures. On May 9th Meghan will be turning 30.

To celebrate both of these momentous achievements, Meghan has decided to head to Spain to hike El Camino. As you know, Meghan is all about adventure and exploring new paths, culture and community. She has spent the last few years focusing on completing her studies and investing in her community in Chattanooga all the while waiting and ready to explore.

Now we have the chance to celebrate this momentous time in her life, her dedication to her studies, her love of Chattanooga and all the people she knows and the infectious joy she brings wherever she goes and send her on her way for 6 weeks.

This trip and time away is the beginning of Meghan's time to explore and invest in communities and people around the world.

Let's celebrate her by helping make this trip possible. Any sized donation is welcome but please consider $25, $50 or even $100 to help send her to El Camino.

  • A Few More Thoughts

    A few more thoughts
It is day ten and I am resting. At 13km I called it a day. I have washed my cloths (my socks twice cause they were nasty,) checked my emails, and done some writing. My writing stamina is picking up and I remembered the mental lists, ongoing, which began a few days ago.
Things for which I am grateful:
    My hydrapack
    My strong, german legs
    Shade
    Mornings
    Podcasts
    Poppies along the road
    Street art

    Things I hate:
    Lose gravel
    The afternoon sun
The time between when a blister forms and when it becomes a callus
    Going Downhill
  • Thoughts Along The Way

    Thoughts along the way
There are so many thoughts I want to unpack. From when my days begin at about 645, setting off from an albergue after a cup of coffee, to when I stumble into a town sweaty with sore feet between one and two, I have lost track of most of these thoughts. So far, I have been too tired or too caught up in exploring cities and conservations to really be disciplined in my writing. But the thoughts are coming like rain and my headspace is clearer than it has been in years. Here are a few, brief, ones.
As I sift away the stresses and distractions of ten years my deepest values and fears are becoming clearer.
Im the first few days everyone sheds bits and pieces from their packs in order to lighten them and it is amazing what we realize we dont need and how much of what we carry is for our own sense of security.
We constantly have to vocally remind ourselves that this is not a race because we cannot help but compare ourselves to others who are faster or slower, who manage bigger packs or have been walking for much longer.
I am way more aware of, and protective of, my own boundaries than I used to be.
This world is really beautiful. The earth was made with detail and love and deserves respect.
I really appreciate sarcastic young French men .
