My Travel Story

by: Clara Brune Start Date: Sep 17, 2017 - End Date: Jan 4, 2018
Alright, here we go. I guess I should start with the classical presentation:
My name is Clara, I´m currently 18 years old and I live a pretty basic life in Sweden. I graduated from the gymnasium (corresponding high school in the USA) a couple of months ago and right now I´m working to save money for this trip. I work for a charitable organization, which I love and get a lot of personal development from. The trip which I´m saving money for will cost more than I´m able to save up though, and the money I can save after covering my expenses here will be enough to live and eat there for five months. What´s missing is thus the money to cover a flight ticket and a bed to sleep in. So, where am I going now?

2008 - 2010 I lived in Managua, Nicaragua, with my family. To sum up my experience it was the best two years of my life. Since then I have longed back - and finally, I have the chance to go! Parallel with my want to go back, I have another longing - to do something good for the world. In my future profession and career I hope I´ll get the chance to help many people, but this is a way for me to start now. Through contacts I have found an organization which has activities for children with disabilities or problems at home. Basically, the group of children contains anything from children in wheelchairs to those with parents who are prostitutes. The goal for the organization is to create a safe space for these children, which it does through educating them in anything from English to farming and ecological thinking. For five months I will live with a family which will rent me a bed and volunteer at this organization. You can imagine how excited I am.

I think this experience will change me as a person in many ways, but mostly I genuinely hope I can contribute something to the organization and mostly to the children. So, here I am asking for your help. I´ll be forever thankful.

Love,
Clara
