I and the whole team were working to restore degraded areas in Way Kambas, Indonesia, by returning the current weeds cover to forest cover as it was decades ago.

This restoration activity is not only planting, but also protecting the area from threats, especially fires that are relatively high. Therefore, one of the main activities is fire control, including building firebreaks to prevent fire from entering the restoration area. Not only that, education and raising public participation are also carried out.

This whole thing is what we call the Way Kambas Restoration. In addition to restoring forest cover, this restoration is expected to build forest cover connectivity in Way Kambas, so as to expand the habitat of its flagship species.

We are determined to restore the Way Kambas ecosystem to becomes a safe and comfort habitat for local animals, such as elephants, tigers and rhinos.
