My Travel Story

In order to fundraise for my flights and project fees for my participation in a volunteering placement in Ecuador from May 9th to June 5th 2025. I will be cycling from my home near Royston, Hertfordshire to Ely in Cambridgeshire and back again covering roughly 100 miles in total. If I have time I will go further.

Kaya Responsible Travel is a company offering volunteering and internship placements across the globe with the goal of creating responsible global citizens. The main focus of this volunteering opportunity in the Pichincha Cloud Forest in Ecuador is to assist local communities in developing sustainable farming techniques to regenerate forests improving the local ecosystem and benefitting the local community. Smaller scale techniques are also taught for greenhouses and gardens and nutrition programmes for children and adults. The project has already restored more than 6 hectares of land.

My activities at the project may include planting, maintenance and harvesting of the forest area and systems as well as creating workshops for teaching sustainable living or creating online content for awareness of the project. I really feel that I can make a difference to the community in the Pichincha Cloud Forest using my physical and mental abilities.

An update will be posted after the cycle ride has been completed which will take place before the 8th of May 2025.
