My Travel Story

Teaching has always been more than a career to me, it’s a calling rooted in service, connection, and equity. This year, I have the incredible opportunity to volunteer as a teacher in Fiji for three weeks, working directly with students and educators to support learning in a meaningful, hands-on way, thanks to Marcie & Dave Hayes for offering this experience. 

This experience will deeply impact my growth as an educator by allowing me to learn from a new culture, adapt my teaching to different learning environments, and bring those global perspectives back into my classroom at home. Volunteering abroad strengthens my ability to teach with empathy, cultural awareness, and creativity skills that benefit every student I work with.

While in Fiji, I will support a local classroom, assist teachers, and help create a positive, encouraging learning environment for students. My goal is not only to teach, but also to listen, learn, and contribute in a way that respects and uplifts the community I serve.

I chose Fiji because of its strong sense of community, its commitment to education, and the opportunity to work alongside educators who are making a difference with limited resources. Supporting students in this setting is incredibly meaningful to me, both personally and professionally.

Your support will help cover travel costs, program fees, cultural appropriateness clothing, housing, and classroom supplies, allowing me to focus fully on serving students and making the most of this opportunity. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps bring this journey to life.
