Volunteering In Thailand: Elephant Sanctuary and Wildlife Santuary
My Travel Story
This summer I will be undertaking a 4-week placement in Thailand (15th May – 12th June), alongside the charity Globalteer. To raise money for this charity, I will be completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge on 21/02/2016, and I will also be climbing Ben Nevis on 13/03/2016. The money raised will be used by the charity to go towards the elephant sanctuary and the wildlife sanctuary that I will be volunteering at, and will not be kept by myself for any personal financial gain.
Any donations are greatly appreciated by both myself and the charity, and will take me one step closer to achieving this dream.
More information is available on the fundraising page, and on the links provided below.
Thankyou!

Most of the animals residing at the sanctuary were maltreated before they arrived here, suffering from abuse, malnutrition, neglect and improper care. Many of the animals arrive with permanent disabilities and hence, cannot be returned to the wild. The wildlife sanctuary also has an education centre as educating local people and future generations is essential to Thailand's wildlife conservation.
Thailand has a thriving tourism industry. Unfortunately, this has been exploited by people wishing to make money by using elephants as ‘entertainment’ and every day hundreds of animals are suffering at the hands of humans purely to make a profit for their owners. They are forced to perform degrading and unnatural tricks, often being beaten with spike hammers. Kept on chains 24 hours a day, these animals lose their dignity and freedom and merely exist as moneymaking commodities. The elephants are worked hard, often without shade, and denied the much needed time for eating, drinking and bathing. Volunteers ensure these beautiful animals live a life as close as possible to their wild relatives.
