My Travel Story

Hello, my name is Maria Rincon and I'm 23 years old. I'm a psychology major at Georgia Gwinnett College. This trip will help me with my field of study and will help me gain volunteer experience which could look good on a resume. When I was 4 years old, I was diagnosed with Autism and it has been something i have learned to deal with over time.I have overcome it a lot and now I want to advocate for people who are also on the spectrum like me. I am an Autism advocate and I want to reach out to other people in the Autisitc community or people with mental disabilities. This trip is a mental health placement for psyhcology majors in which they will work with people with mental disabilites. I am passionate about this project because, I will get to reach out to other people. Indonesia does not offer much psychological help so I am looking forward to providing these people with the pyschological help that they need. Traveling to Sri Lanka will be a great opportunity because, I will learn about a different culture, get some job experience for my field of study, allow me to work with Autistic/mentally disabled people and let me see the world through a different point of view.
