James is volunteering in Nepal helping Special Needs Kids
My Travel Story
Hi, my name is James Mackay, and I work as a paraeducator in a public elementary school in California, supporting children with moderate to severe special needs. This summer, I have the incredible opportunity to volunteer for six weeks in Kathmandu, Nepal, working with children who face similar challenges but have far fewer resources.
This is a cause that’s deeply personal to me. Every day, I see the power of specialized care, education, and support in helping children with disabilities thrive. I am eager to learn more about how special education in Nepal compares to the system in the United States, understanding both the challenges and strengths of their approach. While I bring my own experience working with children with moderate to severe special needs, I see this as an opportunity to grow, exchange knowledge with local educators, and gain deeper insight into how I can contribute in a meaningful way. My hope is that this experience will not only allow me to support children and educators during this trip but also help me find ways to continue serving Nepali children in the future through additional trips and ongoing efforts to support special education in Nepal.
Since this is a self-funded volunteer trip, I am personally covering my travel and accommodation expenses, but I would greatly appreciate any support to help with costs. Your generous donation will go directly toward travel, living expenses, and supplies that I can bring to benefit the children I’ll be working with.
Every contribution—big or small—will help make this mission possible. Even if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign with others would mean the world to me. Thank you for supporting this journey and for believing in the importance of inclusive education and care for all children!
With gratitude,
James Mackay
