My Travel Story

Hello! I have been learning Korean at a beginner level for around 2 years. I have been wanting to travel there for the longest time, and now I have my opportunity! I will be embarking on Sogang University's Korean Immersion program. It is 4 weeks, and I will take Korean language classes on campus or in the Korean Language Education Center's Building. I will also stay in a dorm room on campus. Not only will I be learning the language through classes, but through the school I will also be taking culture classes as well! Examples of these culture classes are Korean Cooking, Tae Kwon Doe classes, K-POP dance classes, calligraphy, and more! We will also go on field trips as a class and I will have free time to go out and sightsee what we didn't get to during our field trips. I have a list of things I have been wanting to do and see in Seoul, such as renting Hanbok (한복) (Korea's dress) and visiting 경복궁 Palace! (Gyeongbokgung Palace). There will be a completion ceremony and at the end I will have 6 credits that will transfer to a college or university for any major in America if I decide to pursue a degree later on in life. During the classes, students must speak in Korean. This is of course a daunting task, but that is the whole point of the immersion program- you learn by being forced to speak in that language. It also is great that the University places you in classes based on your experience in Korean, so I will choose to start at level one of the class, and will be with other Korean learners from all over the world! I can't wait to make friends and experience the Korean culture like I've been wanting to for years. I plan on taking this summer program this summer if I have enough funds raised, but if not, I will do this the summer of 2024. It would mean the absolute world to me if you could help support me on this trip! Thank you so much!
