Costa Rica Pre-Vet Wildlife Study Abroad Opportunity
My Travel Story
Some of the activities include:
- Caring for sloths, kinkajous, monkeys, parrots, and other Costa Rican animals
- Help research and create enrichments for monkeys
- Performing veterinary labs such as coprological exams and necropsies
- Help to provide free pet care and spay and neuter surgeries for locals
The program is an amazing resume builder to help my journey to veterinary school. Through the 2 weeks, I will obtain 70 service hours, 70 veterinary hours, and 3 college credits (all required for admission to veterinary school in the future). It's difficult to obtain wildlife veterinary hours, especially living in Indiana, so I'm very excited to further my animal experience into a new field of veterinary medicine.
I chose to go through Loop Abroad because they are not only a volunteer program. While working in Costa Rica, the veterinarians lecture and teach students about animal care. This program gives me to opportutiny to become a better educated, well-rounded candidate for veterinary school. I will be able to take what I learn in Costa Rica and apply it to my future career.
