Three Months or Bust! An Independent Authors Journey
My Travel Story
Now, at the age of 50, I have finally decided to pursue my dream of becoming a published author. On November 17th, 2023, I proudly published my very first novel, which was an incredibly fulfilling experience for me.
Since I do not have an agent or the support of a traditional publisher, I am taking on all the responsibilities myself, which comes at a significant cost. I have depleted all of my savings and have yet to receive any royalties for the book. While I am selling copies on my own, I am also purchasing them from the printer and investing in book registrations and giveaways. Additionally, I am currently pursuing a meditation certification, which adds to the financial burden.
Fortunately, the response to my book has been overwhelmingly positive. It is a fictional novel that draws inspiration from my personal struggles with depression and trauma. Through this book, I aim to shed light on what depression truly looks like, as it often remains hidden and disguised. It is my hope that readers will gain a deeper understanding of this condition and perhaps even consider seeking therapy for themselves. I firmly believe that my book serves a significant purpose and holds great promise, but unfortunately, it has not yet reached the wide audience it deserves.
Regrettably, I lack a marketing degree and possess limited skills beyond writing, teaching children, and practicing meditation. Consequently, my book may not have the opportunity to reach as many readers as I would like.
However, a wonderful opportunity recently presented itself. I received a call from Cocreation Press, a publishing company that supports writers and offers spaces for book signings at the prestigious LA Times Festival of Books. They expressed their admiration for my book and offered to reserve a spot for me at the event. They also mentioned featuring my book in their magazine and the chance to meet agents and investors during the festival. I am confident that this experience will propel my brilliant novel to new heights. Unfortunately, I am unable to afford the plane tickets or the registration fee for the booth. To make it to LA and seize this incredible opportunity, I estimate that I will need at least $5,000.00.
Please help me reach my goal and allow my book to help others all over the country. Maybe the world!
Thanks for your concideration,
Venus Knight
