My Travel Story

My name is Madison, and I'm a Psychology student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I have a 3.97 GPA, Dean's List every semester, a second-place award for my freshman year writing, and I would love to attend this program in Summer 2025 and learn Japanese in an environment where I will be completely immersed by the language.

This will fulfill 10 credits of language for my degree! I am hoping to continue studying the language (prior to and after the trip) consistently and use my knowledge as a future federal employee to assist in translation. English is an incredibly difficult language to learn, and as the daughter of a woman whose second language in English, I've seen firsthand how broken English can affect an individual, career-wise, legally, and socially. I hope to assist Japanese-speakers, especially any victims, through federal processes and show individuals that they don't have to feel alone. I can only imagine how isolating it must feel to not speak your new home's native language.

Unfortunately, additional college costs are something I cannot afford. I truly believe this study abroad trip will strongly advance my understanding of both the Japanese language and the culture. 

I understand this planning may be far in advance, but $13,000 is a lot to earn!! I work 2 jobs, but have to allocate my income towards car insurance, medical bills, food, and school costs. Any assistance is immensely appreciated!
