Dream it possible
My Travel Story
Since I was 12, I always had a dream to study/move overseas, and I worked so hard to achieve that dream but the older I grow, the more I realize my dream is so unachievable with my background. I am 26 years old now, 14 years down the road, I have not given up yet, and this is the time I am closest to my dream.
A few years earlier, my family withdrawn me from my foundation level while I was the best student in the college, they believed that in Asian culture, women are not required to be educated and should find a good man and be a housewife. My family and I had a huge fight and I ran out of home and made the craziest, yet the best decision of my life - to took up a loan and study in another States in Malaysia. I was 17 and have no clue on how to apply for a government loan, needless to say, do I know how to survive in a foreign state all by myself. Right then I made a commitment to myself that I am going to be successful in the decision I have made and prove to my family that woman, even a girl at my age can make a difference, and make her dream came true.
From there, I successfully enrolled in the University of Medicine, however, I have no enough money to sign up for my Ideal course - Medicine, which alternatively, I enrolled in Diploma in Nursing. During my three years in Nursing, I had to take up a part-time job to support my own livings and achieve academic excellence at the same time. At the time, I do not speak a word of English, and now I can confidently say that I am fluent in English. In addition, I was honoured to sharpen my leadership and interprofessional communication skills as the president of the Nursing Club and a member of Seeds of Hope (Community Volunteer Work).
The reason I worked so hard is so that I can get a scholarship to cover up my study loans. In the year 2016, I was awarded the best student awards for 3 years consecutively, and the highest achievement in National Nursing License Exam in Malaysia. I also graduated with a CGPA of 3.99/4.00. However, the policy changed on my year of graduation, so despite my great achievement, I receive nothing and graduate with a debt of 45k.
Thereafter, I was employed in Singapore to be a Registered Nurse. With my 4 years of experience in the field, I had ample opportunity to observe how a Hospital operates and it really intrigued me. I have witnessed plenty of inefficiency in regards to the management of staff, patient care, cost-effectiveness, leadership and all, but I have no authority or knowledge to make a change. From there, I have made my mind to make a change.
I have searched throughout the internet on a way to enrol in a University that can provide me with the position, and authority to make it possible, not only changing career at this age is incredibly difficult, but all the course fee are beyond my financial range, provided I am the only person now to support my entire family (my parents and brother). I really wanted to do something for myself, to grant the dream of the 12-year-old me, and to make a change.
Therefore, I am here to hope, you, can help me in this journey and make my dream possible. I am sending my greatest gratitude and promised to give back to the society on later day.
