My Travel Story

My name is Doug Cooper.  I've been involved with professional video production for over 20 years.  In 2023 I connected with The Pearl Institute, an amazing non-profit focused on healing mental health through psychedelic assisted therapy, awareness, and education. 

The Pearl was one of two facilities in the country who was legally approved to participate in the MAPS expanded access program.  These where trials that successfully treated people with MDMA who had extreme PTSD. 

Psychedelics have changed my life in the most profoundly positive way, and educating people about responsible therapeutic use of these medicines, is something I'm extremely passionate about.  Since connecting with The Pearl, I have devoted the majority of my time ever since to producing video content and running their YouTube channel.  The goal with creating their video content is primarily to educate people about how impactful and life changing psychedelics can be for mental health. 

This June is the MAPS Psychedelic Science Conference in Denver, Colorado.  This is a huge opportunity for networking, and content creation.  Being at this conference could really change the game for The Pearl's YouTube channel and helping to get it monetized.  Being a non-profit, funds have been limited, especially since the FDA rejection to decriminalize MDMA in August 2024. 

We see a huge opportunity to monetize our YouTube channel in order to bring residual funding to this amazing non-profit.  As I've mentioned, their funds are currently limited, which makes the cost for this trip difficult.  Tickets for one attendee alone is almost $900, and that doesn't include lodging or travel expenses.  I'll be driving from North Carolina and transporting all of my equipment by myself. 

The reason I started this campaign is to raise money for this trip, in hopes to obtain the connections, and content, that await us in Denver.  We already have some people lined up to record and connect with, if I can get there.  I'm looking to raise funding to pay for conference tickets, gas, lodging for at least 1 week, and potentially some additional production equipment that would be very helpful on this trip.  If I'm able to raise enough money, I'd like to bring an additional crew member or two along to help with recording video and audio.  Although, I'll be able to handle it myself if necessary. 

This conference only happens every other year, so getting there this June could really help a lot with our endeavor to bring awareness to the masses and do our part in helping the world heal.  Along with my headshot, and a photo of me on set with "Papadosio," a band we featured on some of our videos, I've included a video link in this campaign, so you can watch a sample of the type of content I'll be producing.  The video I included features Dr. David Nichols, a chemist who is well know for the work he's done in psychedelics.  Please feel free to check out more on The Pearl Institute's YouTube channel.  You can also check out their website for more information at www.ThePearlInstitute.org
